PAX South 2020 – First Look – Kunai

Articles Events News

For those of you looking for the next Metroidvania type game to play have no fear, Turtle Blaze has just the thing. Kunai is an intense action game with a cool twist on a classic action sidescroller.

What is Kunai?

KUNAI is a quirky, fast-paced, action-adventure or Metroidvania styled game. In this game, you play as Tabby, a tablet who joins the fight against a robot uprising. When a traumatic event takes place that shakes the balance of the world. Human life has been almost being wiped out by an evil A.I. Lemonkus. Now robots roam free across the earth wreaking havoc. It’s up to the protagonist Tabby, a killer robot infused with the soul of an ancient warrior.

Using the title Kunais you can traverse the levels by climbing walls, swinging on ledges, and much more. Like many Metroidvania style games, you start with nothing. As you progress through the game you begin to unlock new weapons and abilities. The more robots you kill the stronger and more rouge-like your character becomes. The Kunai can be used to explore the world and find hidden areas and loot. Much of the game is based on movement and agility. Mastering this will lead to awesome things.

Impressions from the PAX South Floor

From what I saw at PAX, Kunai comes off as a great entry point for people who want to play a rough like or Metroidvania game. What I mean by that is the game is more forgiving than many games in the genre. The game has a low entry point to get playing while enjoying it. As you learn how to use the Kunai to traverse more and more you will figure out how to pull off string together moves to get into hidden areas. This is something I would have my kids play so they could get into the genre. I look forward to getting some hands-on time again in the future.
