One of 2021’s most anticipated new action-RPGs, Outriders, is fast approaching its April release. Earlier this week we got some more news regarding its launch and upcoming demo.
Welcome to the Party, Stadia
Last year, while Outriders’ launch was still slated for February, Square Enix announced Outriders would be coming to Google’s cloud gaming service, Stadia, shortly after launch. With Outriders being delayed later into 2021, People Can Fly and Square Enix have managed to sync up the launch times. The Stadia version of Outriders will now release simultaneously with the game’s worldwide release on April 1, 2021. With that comes a Stadia exclusive feature called “Stream Connect” which will allow users to watch gameplay of users on their friendslist via windowed picture-in-picture overlay.

It’s Not a Beta
With Outriders’ demo coming later this month, Square Enix and People Can Fly gave us the rundown and set some expectations. First off, this is not a Beta. This is a vertical slice of the game itself and all of your earned progress will carry over. How much, you ask? The demo will allow players to experience the first few missions of the game as well as a few side quests and world exploration.
What does that mean in terms of progression? The game will give players access to all four playable classes and the six available character slots to experiment with builds. Despite having access to all of the classes, players will only be able to progress to Level 7. This will allow players to unlock four of each class’s abilities to get a scope of how combat could work deeper in the game. Players will be able to advance to World Tier 5 and won’t be time-limited for the duration of the pre-launch period because the demo will continue after launch!
Are you getting more interested? Wonder when and where you can play the demo? The demo will become available on February 25, 2021, and launch simultaneously worldwide at 12PM EST, but it will not be eligible for pre-load on any platform. Speaking of platform, the demo will be playable on Playstation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Series S, and X as well as PC via Steam and NVIDIA GeForce Now (Sorry Stadia Users) and will be approximately 22-24GB.
Now, here’s the kicker: the demo will be free-to-play on all listed platforms and will not require purchase or pre-order to do so. As an added bonus, all progress will carry over (on the same platform) to the release version of the game!
Lastly, the whole demo will feature cross-play on all platforms. While it has to be turned on via the in-game menu and is still being tested, it’s still there for players to utilize. Being one of Outriders’ most integral features over most games of a similar vein, it’s really great we’ll be able to experience this with all of our friends wherever they choose to play!
