Nintendo Direct News for 9-13-17


Nintendo hosted their latest Nintendo Direct recently, and with it a huge chunk of new info and releases.  Here’s a look at the Nintendo Direct News and what to expect from Nintendo within the next year.

Nintendo Direct News for 3DS:

  • New trailer and four new additions included with the release of Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Ultra Sun/Moon releases on November 11th.
    • New Legendary Pokemon Necrozma introduced.
    • All new areas of Alola to explore.
    • Free special Rockruff available to early adopters of the newest versions of the series along with 12 Special Pokeballs.
    • New Ultra Beast Pokemon introduced, one for each Version.

Pokemon Sun and Moon’s Three Legendary Pokemon

  • Pokemon Gold and Silver Versions coming to the 3DS eShop on September 22nd.
  • Two New 2DS models being released: An Orange and White model being released on October 6th and a Pokeball motif model being released on November 3rd.
  • Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga 3DS remake with an extra mode called Bowser’s Minions and amiibo support. Releases on October 6th along side two new Mario themed amiibo featuring a Goomba and a Koopa Trooper.
  • Kirby: Battle Royale! A multiplayer arena Kirby game releasing on January 1st, 2018.
  • A third version of Yo-Kai Watch 2 called Psychic Spectres launching on September 29th. Psychic Spectres will feature new Yo-Kai as well as a power up for your starting partner. A free update for the original versions of Yo-Kai Watch 2 will be released along side Psychic Spectres.
  • Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy. A traditional Professor Layton Puzzle Adventure where you get to play as Katrielle, Professor Layton’s daughter. Look for it in stores for 3DS on October 6th.
  • Minecraft for New 3DS/2DS systems available now!
  • Mario Party: The Top 100, a game for the 3DS with the top 100 mini-games from the Mario Party franchise coming on November 10th.
  • Metroid: Samus Returns spotlight with a sneak peek at the possible return of an old enemy. Samus returns to the 3DS on September 15th.
  • ATLUS RPGs finally coming to the west!
    • The Alliance Alive release date – Early 2018
    • Etrian Odyssey V release date – October 17th, Demo available now
    • Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux release date – Early 2018
    • Radiant Historia release date – Early 2018
  • Two big games coming to the 3DS soon
    • Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney release date – November 2017
    • Fire Emblem Warriors release date – October 20th

The New Orange and White model for the New 2DS alongside the Pokeball Motif 2DS

Nintendo Direct News for the Switch:

  • Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in-depth trailer briefly describes each nation and faction in the game as well as gives a look at the battle systems. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 launches on December 1st along side a themed Pro Controller as well as Special edition of the game.
  • More updates coming to Splatoon 2. A new map called Snapper Canal with a river running through the middle of the map and a new Umbrella weapon are coming soon, as well as the return of a fan favorite map from Splatoon 1 called Kelp Dome coming on September 15th.
  • New Fire Emblem Warriors character announced with Lyn from the first US released Fire Emblem game making a come back. Fire Emblem Warriors launches on the Switch on October 20th along side the 3DS version and a two new amiibo featuring Chrom and Tiki and a special edition exclusive to the Switch.

Lyn returns to the west in Fire Emblem Warriors as a playable Character

  • Snipper Clips Plus launching on November 10th featuring all new challenges for you and your friends. All the new content will be available to players that already purchased the original Snipper Clips as DLC in the eShop.
  • Morphies Law, a hilarious size based first person shooter coming first to the Nintendo Switch this winter.
  • Rocket League coming to the switch this holiday season and showing off the Switch exclusive Samus, Mario and Luigi battle cars.
  • Arena of Valor, the first MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) to launch on the Switch. Free BETA access will be available this winter.
  • New Flip Wars update introducing a new battle mode called Class Match and a new stage titled Red Coliseum. The update will also feature some new mechanics to the game and allow four player local wireless play.
  • Arcade Archives are coming to the Nintendo Switch. The Archives will feature old Nintendo Arcade Cabinet games and making them playable on the Switch starting with the Original Mario Bros on September 27th.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Champion amiibos will be released on November 10th and feature exclusive Helmets representing their Guardians as well as allowing the player to recollect the Champions Weapons.
  • Competitive games coming to the Switch soon are:
    • NBA 2K18 release date – September 15th on the eShop and coming to retailers on October 17th
    • WWE 2K18 release date – Soon
    • FIFA 18 release date – September 29th
    • Pokken Tournament DX release date – September 22nd
  • Square-Enix’s Project Octopath Traveler (working title) trailer gave an in-depth look into some game mechanics like the Path Actions that are unique to each character and a quick look at some of the battle systems of the game. Project Octopath Traveler is coming in 2018, but a Demo is available now on the Switch’s eShop.

  • Arms update inbound introducing a new stage, three new Arms and a new character, Lola Pop.
  • Dragon Quest Builders coming to the Switch in Spring 2018
  • Kirby Star Allies, a 1 to 4 player Co-Op classic Kirby adventure is coming to the Switch in Spring 2018
  • Some downloadable Indie games coming to the eShop soon are:
    • Steam World Dig 2 release date – September 21st
    • Golf Story release date – September
    • Nine Parchments release date – Holiday 2017
    • Battle Chef Brigade release date – Holiday 2017
    • Tiny Metal release date – TBD
    • Super Meat Boy Forever release date – 2018
  • More exciting 3rd Party titles coming soon to the Nintendo Switch
    • Skyrim release date – November 17th
    • Doom (2016) release date – Holiday 2017
    • Wolfenstein 2: New Colossus release date – 2018
    • Lost Sphear release date – January 23rd, 2018
    • Sonic Forces release date – November 7th
    • Resident Evil Revelations 1 & 2 release date – November 28th
    • L.A. Noire release date – November 14th
  • Super Mario Odyssey got an in-depth trailer showing viewers some of the Kingdoms they’ll visit, Power Moons as the main collectible of the game, Player customization, and a snapshot mode. Odyssey will launch on October 27th along side some wedding themed amiibos and a Switch Bundle including the game and a carrying case for the Nintendo Switch.
