On August 1, 2019, Activision and Infinity Ward welcomed several prominent Call of Duty Streamers and Youtubers to the reveal of Call of Duty Modern Warfare’s multiplayer mode. Many reports are saying that this may be the best Call of Duty to date.
Prepare to go dark!
The stakes have never been higher as players take on the role of a lethal Tier One operator in a heart-racing saga that will affect the global balance of power. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare engulfs the players in an incredibly raw, gritty, provocative narrative that brings unrivalled intensity and shines a light on the changing nature of modern war. The game is being developed by the studio that started it all, Infinity Ward. Their plan is to deliver an epic reimagining or soft reboot of the iconic Modern Warfare series from the ground up. In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, players will be thrust into an immersive narrative spanning the entire game. Players will engage in breathtaking covert operations alongside a diverse cast of international special forces and freedom fighters throughout iconic European cities and volatile expanses of the Middle East.
A return to its roots
With this year’s Call of Duty only being a partial reboot. It will have several familiar faces in the game. It looks to tap into the nostalgia that gamers feel about the Modern Warfare subseries, but that is only part of the goal. Design director Geoff Smith said during an event in Los Angeles earlier this week, it’s also about “trying to get away from the perception of what Call of Duty is.” There’s been some debate about whether 2019’s Modern Warfare is a high-tech remake of the 2007 title or something entirely new, and the truth is that it’s a little bit of both. Infinity Ward’s plan is to make it feel fresh again while keeping its DNA intact. As a result, for Modern Warfare 2019, everything has been stripped down and rebuilt in order to achieve this.
We all play together.
One of the most important facets is having a unified experience. Which means making sure everything works the same way across all systems. Whether that’s the campaign or the various multiplayer modes. Modern Warfare will bring players from different platforms together like no other Call of Duty has. This is thanks to console and PC cross-play and to getting rid of the season pass. Thus, making all additional maps and downloadable content free. This is an effective way not to split the player base. They showed off returning game modes likeTDM and Search. As well as touch on new modes like 20 v 20 Ground War and the 2 v 2 Gunfight modes. All of this was shown off on the new game engine.
A new game mode
One of the standout modes coming to Modern Warfare is the 2v2 Gunfight mode. Gunfight uses random, predetermined loadouts for each round. It’s also a good place to cut your teeth, since you’ll get to try out a slew of different weapon combos, and it’s easy to jump in and out without much fuss. As you saw from the video it seems like a ton of fun.
