Spawn #300 is here and the legend has brought some friends with him to celebrate the milestone issue from Image Comics. Remember the heavy-hyped book from DC Comics Doomsday Clock? Well, it’s back… with the penultimate issue as the series nears its final chapter. One of Marvel Comics‘ longest-running female heroes finally gets her due!

SPAWN #300

SPAWN MAKES HISTORY! With this 300th issue, SPAWN becomes the longest-running independent series in comic book history. To celebrate, legendary artists TODD McFARLANE and GREG CAPULLO return with ALL-NEW interior pencils, with additional art provided by JASON SHAWN ALEXANDER, J. SCOTT CAMPBELL, and JEROME OPEÑA, a cavalcade of celebratory covers, and additional writing by SCOTT SNYDER! And next month, RECORDS WILL BE BROKEN with SPAWN #301! The “Todd-Father” has been hard on the marketing tour promoting this milestone issue for his beloved character Spawn. Rumblings of a new feature film and a cameo appearance in Mortal Kombat 11 show just how much star power this character has, he’s in the same DLC pack as the T-800 Terminator!

SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN #1

Boom! Studios who has been on fire as of late, announced a 2nd printing a few weeks back. The book is now going for a 4th printing is currently ranked as the highest-selling series debut in Boom’s history. When the children of Archer’s Peak begin to go missing, everything seems hopeless. Most children never return, but the ones that do have terrible stories, impossible stories of terrifying creatures that live in the shadows. Their only hope of finding and eliminating the threat is the arrival of a mysterious stranger, one who believes the children and claims to see what they can see. Her name is Erica Slaughter. She kills monsters. That is all she does, and she bears the cost because it MUST be done.

DOOMSDAY CLOCK #11

The critically acclaimed series by the renowned team of writer Geoff Johns and artist Gary Frank marches towards its conclusion. In this penultimate issue, the truth behind “Rebirth” is revealed as Batman searches for the one person he believes can help him save the world… Rorschach! There is a large fan base for this series and The Watchmen, delays and sluggish release schedule have plagued the series. As a result, the final issue (#12) does not have a release date. Despite that, this series continues to be one of the highest pulled at shops. Expect this to be a very popular hardcover release once the series closes.

Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy are taking their show on the road in this new miniseries! They’ll have to evade villains and heroes alike while they explore their relationship and unpack their time and experiences at Sanctuary. Set after the events of HEROES IN CRISIS and smack in the middle of “Year of the Villain,” it’s a journey across the DC Universe that will change their friendship forever…if they live that long! Given how much artists love to draw these two, the variants are heavy and fun for this title!

 

JUSTICE LEAGUE #31

“The Justice Doom War” part two! The culmination of Lex Luthor’s plan hinges on his beating the Justice League to the prize, ratcheting up the peril as the Year of the Villain continues! The Totality has shattered and its pieces have been tossed across space and time. Thus, the Justice League must also split apart, forming three search teams to comb the past, present, and future to re-combine the Totality before the Legion of Doom can get its villainous hands on the cosmic weapon. What allies will our heroes find in these other timelines? In the future, it’s the Last Boy on Earth, Kamandi! But in the past, there are the familiar faces of the Justice Society of America!

 

DCEASED: A GOOD DAY TO DIE #1

While the mainstays of the Justice League—Superman, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman—battle the worldwide infection in the pages of DCEASED, a group of other heroes work to stop the impending apocalypse—no matter who they have to kill! Cullen Bunn is another busy writer with several projects, but regardless of the character or story it’s compelling and has his style.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Knowing the story of how and why Image Comics was created helps us understand the significance of Spawn #300. The core group that formed Image Comics were trailblazers in their own right and were ahead of their time. Their contributions and influence on everything comics, from storytelling to art, and even to film are apparent everywhere you look. Enjoy this week’s releases and let these greats inspire you to be great in whatever you do!
