This week, it was announced that Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops will receive their Season 2 update soon. Treyarch announced on Tuesday that the update will launch on February 25. That gives you just over a week to wrap up that Battle Pass! The announcement also included a new trailer that carries forward with the Black Ops theme!
Is Warzone getting a new map?
While Treyarch has essentially remained quiet on what to expect this season; there are some clear takeaways from the trailer. Our first takeaway is that it sure seems like we are going to Laos. It has been rumored for a while that a new Warzone map could potentially drop with this season, as it will line up with the first anniversary of the game. VGC reported back in July, that there are plans to utilize the nukes located in Verdansk to drive a narrative to effectively change the map or deliver a new local entirely. This was supposed to be similar to how Fortnite delivered its Chapter 2 content with a world-altering event. By changing the locale to Laos, the game content will be more in line with the Cold War theme.
VGC also communicated that the new map had been delayed but little reason was given as to why. However, it is not outside the realm of possibility that Treyarch and Raven Software may be dealing with the same struggles that many of their peers have throughout the pandemic. Some high-profile games have been delayed (here’s looking at you Halo: Infinite) or released with more bugs and issues than would be expected in a normal year (not going there – people are sensitive). In short, we could just now be getting the map that was intended to launch back in the holiday season. I’m interested to see what is in store for us and how that extra time has translated into the gameplay and narrative.
But what if it’s not nuclear?
There is a rumored theory that is beginning to emerge that could decimate Verdansk. This theory is a bit more paranormal than one might expect as compared to the nuclear disaster. Recently, Twitter user Eric Maynard posted his discovery of a Cold War Zombies trial machine that he discovered in Verdansk. The machine was located in the hospital and it indicates that zombies can be activated but the machine seems to be inactive for now. This machine is featured in the Black Ops zombie mode. Could it have been dropped into the update by mistake or is this an Easter Egg that Treyarch has provided to tease us with upcoming content?

Rebirth Island also has its own Easter Eggs and they are intriguing. Players have been experiencing these on the island. Redditor u/Soggy_nugget86 posted a recording of a screen glitch that is accompanied by a garbled Russian transmission that occurs in an office next to the headquarters 2nd floor.
Playing warzone went in the office next to headquarters 2nd floor and this weird pop up plays and Russian voices start playing.WHAT IS THIS! from Warzone
This was then translated by Redditor u/Wolf-of-icewrack as stating:
“-Dispatch, this is Russian ship “Vodyanoy” channel 1-2, over.
“-This is dispatch, requesting shipping permit to Verdansk, over.
“-Dispatch, cargo secured, all systems are fine. Get ready to go. Over.”
Furthermore, the Vodyanoy ship has been spotted by players on Rebirth Island. See the captures below that were posted on Twitter by KILLER STIDGE.

Many speculate that the ship is carrying the infamous Nova 6, which was reportedly being remanufactured by Stitch on Rebirth Island. The season one trailer features both. Nova 6 is a biochemical weapon that is manufactured on Rebirth Island and it is also featured in the Cold War Zombies. It is seemingly more and more likely that a zombie mode will be coming to Warzone, and it could be the event that premiers when players return to Verdansk. Typically, whenever a battle royale features a new map it will stay in rotation for a while. I would assume that this will occur after we have spent some time in Laos. With the potential for nuclear explosions and/or a zombie apocalypse; it may be a great time to enjoy Verdansk as it is.
Who are the operators in the new season?
The new trailer displays a panoramic aerial helicopter flight and features the new characters Wolf, Rivas, and Naga. Wolf’s squad seems to be hunting a character by the name of Naga in Laos, who definitely appears to be notorious and has just eliminated an unknown operator. Naga sports a massive revolver, is masked, and sports aviator sunglasses. He is in communication with Stich who directs him to basically put up a fight to mislead the strike team that is hunting him so that they are fooled into thinking that the Nova 6 supply line is in jeopardy. He is also to hunt down and eliminate Atlas. It seems that Stitch’s plans to deliver the Nova 6 to Verdansk have progressed to the point that they cannot be stopped easily. Of course, Naga escapes and the strike team arrives to clean up his comrades.
Some of the Operators sport unique weapons that could be coming along in the new season. The first is a crossbow that could be a Cold War variant of the Modern Warfare crossbow. Secondly, there is a massive minigun that is featured that gave me some serious Predator movie flashbacks. It’s too bad, Fortnite has just recently featured this franchise or it could have fit well into this context. Riva, Wolf, and Frank Woods go off into the jungle in pursuit of Naga and to rescue Atlas.
This just in . . .
Treyarch just tweeted that “an operation is underway in the Ural Mountains. I have to stay in the field.” It is unclear who this is from but it definitely seems that this is related to Cold War Zombies. We just received the Firebase Z update on Feb. 4. Could we really be getting a new map so soon? Many are speculating that is the case. It would be nice, as that would bring the total Zombie mode maps to three. Firebase Z arrived as a late addition to season one content. It appears that season two could be choc-full of content as Treyarch catches up in the development process from the delays that came about from the pandemic and the holidays.

There is still so much that we do not know about the content in Season 2. Will Verdansk Zombies be a featured mode or will that be featured in the next season? How will things transpire in Verdansk? Are we even going to Laos at all? I hope to learn more about the weapons and content in the updates that Treyarch is sure to provided in the next week before the launch. I have been a big fan of the ’80s themed war tracks from Season 1 so I am hoping that theme continues. I also really want that minigun to be either a new kill streak or something that is obtainable in Warzone. I have yet to obtain the Juggernaut in Verdansk. I would like to see it in Laos or a version of it. What are some new additions that you would like to see? What are your predictions on how the shit will hit the fan in Verdansk? Let us know in the comments or tell us in the MHG forums!
