As we walked through the entrance of PAX South this year, the Mixer stage immediately caught our attention. Front and center, Mixer was showcasing this game called The Darwin Project. With its high energy and fast-paced action, this game looked to be a ton of fun. We had the privilege to interview Simon Darveau, Co-Founder and Creative Director at Scavengers, the studio responsible for creating The Darwin Project.
The Darwin Project
Another promising title in the Battle Royale genre, The Darwin Project looks to be a strong contender with its unique twists. The Darwin Project pits 10 people in an area where you are freezing cold. Think: The Hunger Games taking place in the Canadian Rockies. The combat is described as “half science experiment and half live-entertainment.” Utilize tools such as cloaking or night vision as you duke it out with 9 other players. The game is also extremely suited to streaming, as the interactive features of Mixer were sure to show off. Manhunt is one example, a feature that allows viewers to select one unlucky combatant as the target for others to kill. Watch the interview below with Simon Darveau as we talk about the game.
The Darwin Project takes place in a dystopian post-apocalyptic landscape in the Northern Canadian Rockies. As preparation for an impending Ice Age, a new project, half science experiment half live-entertainment, is launched. It’s called the “Darwin Project” and it challenges participants to survive the cold and fight to the death in a treacherous arena. The Darwin Project offers a competitive multiplayer third person survival experience featuring at its core a new gameplay innovation: the manhunt. In his or her path to victory, a player must survive extreme environmental conditions, track opponents, and set traps in order to win.
If you can’t wait to get your hands on this title, here’s some good news: There is an open beta coming this weekend on Steam! Predownload now, as the beta runs from January 19th through the 21st.
